The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has said Government will continue to prioritise the energy sector to ensure that all people have access to clean energy in addition to providing adequate and reliable power supply to support industrialization, job creation and transformation of society into a middle income status.
“The Vision 2040 and NDP II observe that for Uganda to achieve the desired socio-economic transformation, the energy sector needs to provide at least 41,783 Mega Watts of energy by the year 2040 and also increase access to the national grid by 80 percent,” Rugunda said.
He added that the energy sector has responded to the national demand by developing its hydro- power and complementing with other renewable forms of energy including, wind, solar and bio- gas.
The Premier made the remarks while presiding over the launch of 1SO 9001: 2015 Certification for Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) at Kampala Serena Hotel on Wednesday 30th May 2018.
