Lira’s ‘Know your status’ concert draws mammoth crowd

Hundreds of patrons thronged Mayor’s Gardens in Lira Municipality at the weekend to attend ‘Know your HIV status’ concert.
The event organised by Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) was to motivate youths to test for HIV, live a responsible lives and adopt positive living for those who are already infected.

The day started with free HIV counseling and testing, blood donation and family planning enrolment and climaxed with performances from local musicians like Mun G, Daxx Kartel, Renah Nalumansi and Tonix.

Musician after musician saved a couple of minutes during their performances and talked about the dangers of living a reckless life and not knowing your status. Mun G equated living a life where you don’t know your status to sitting in a vehicle which you don’t know its destination.

Humphrey Nabimanya, RAHU’s team leader said the concert was organised to sensitise youth about the dangers of living a reckless life. The youth were advised to always use condoms as one of the protective measures against HIV.

Daxx Kartel and Mun G were the kings of the night as they lived their expected performances. Their presence on the stage excited the crowd as they jumped and sang along. Daxx Kartel who stepped on stage before Mun G did songs like Bala and Obupangisa. Mun G did songs among others Sala Puleesa.

At least 2000 people, most of whom were youths tested for HIV whereas 25 women were enrolled to family planning and over 50 units of blood were collected. The campaign proceeds to Masaka and Kabale districts.
